Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification is the first for a baby diaper in Japan
January 30, 2020
By: Tara Olivo
Associate Editor at Nonwovens Industry
Unicharm Corporation has acquired Oeko-Tex Standard 100, the world’s highest level of safety certification for textile products, with its Natural Moony, the supreme quality premium disposable diaper for babies. In particular, it has been certified with “Product Class I,” the most stringent product standard for infants and babies. Acquisition of this certification for the disposable baby diaper was first in Japan. The company is now officially authorized to indicate the certification label of Oeko-Tex Standard 100 on all of its Natural Moony sold in Japan as from March 1, 2020. Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is the international safety certification for textile products. It only certifies products which fulfil the stringent standard as a result of analytical experiments on over 350 kinds of hazardous chemical substances conducted by a certification inspection organization under Oeko-Tex International Group. In order to use this certification label, all materials and chemical substances consisting the product must satisfy the experimental standard. Accordingly, the products with this label are proved to have extremely high safety standards. Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Certification also corresponds to initiatives for eliminating hazardous chemical substances as is stated in “#3 Good health & well-being for all people” and “#12 Responsible production & consumption” of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Going forward, Unicharm will continue to contribute in the accomplishment of SDGs and extend the line-up of certified products as a part of ESG activities by manufacturing them without using, ever, any hazardous chemical substances. Based on its corporate philosophy, “NOLA & DOLA (Necessity of Life with Activities & Dreams of Life with Activities),” Unicharm will further continue to provide all consumers, from newborn infants to the elderly, with products and services that can mentally and physically support them with gentle care.
